Thom, travels with his family down California’s scenic Highway 1 and reminisces how his dad loved the massive grandeur of Morro Rock. “Nanette and I, and our girls have enjoyed quiet interludes here,” Thom states, “delighting in each other’s company, and savoring memories that reach back into my own childhood.” During a visit to Morro Bay with Windsor and Merritt, two of his daughters, Thom set up his easel for a plein-air study of Morro Rock. The end result, “Morro Bay at Sunset”, is his studio release, which is still available for purchase.

While visiting Pismo Beach, Thom was again inspired with another painting depicting his first portrayal of a surfer, in his beautiful, “Footprints in the Sand”. Two pair of footprints in the sand narrow to one, conveying to us that, when our human lives are troubled, God will always be a constant guide and steady support. “Footprints in the Sand” is still available for purchase, so you too can treasure a memorable piece of the Central Coast.
